Former ASI's son arrested in cyber fraud case with ACP

In a recent development, the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Station arrested Tanmay Singh, the son of a former Kolkata Police ASI, for his alleged involvement in a cybercrime case. The arrest came after Bandhan Bank filed a complaint with the Badhannagar Cyber Crime Station in May 2023.

The complaint stated that Ipsita Bhattacharya, an ACP-ranked officer of the Kolkata Police, had informed Bandhan Bank that a family member had fallen victim to a job scam on a website claiming to be affiliated with the bank. Acting on the complaint, the police initiated an investigation and subsequently apprehended two main suspects in the case.

During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused individuals had obtained the user ID and password for the website "shine.com" from another individual. Using this information, they reportedly purchased job aspirants' data from the website for a sum of Rs. 30,000. The accused continued their fraudulent activities using the acquired data.

Further investigation led the police to discover that the shine.com account responsible for the scam had been created by Tanmay Singh. It was found that he had utilized a fake email ID to establish the account. Acting on this information, the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police began an investigation in the Dakshineshwar area, resulting in Singh's arrest.

Tanmay Singh is scheduled to be presented before the Bidhannagar court today. The police have requested the court to grant protection for the accused. Additionally, the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Station is continuing its investigation to identify any other individuals involved in the fraudulent scheme.
